Ways Stress Can Affect Your Skin

It's no secret that chronic stress can affect your mood or personality. And let's be honest: We've all felt the negative effects of being stressed out at one point or another. What most people don't realize, however, is that stress can cause a wide range of health-related issues. For example, stress has been linked to increased blood pressure, ulcers, migraines, heart palpitations, and joint problems.

Similarly, stress can trigger a number of problematic skin conditions for women. The following articles discusses how environmental, physical, or psychological stressors will alter your skin's appearance in a negative way.

Stress Creates Under-Eye Bags

Dermatologists report that under-eye bags, wrinkles, and crow's feet are caused by chronic stress. Stress encourages us to subconsciously contort our faces in certain ways that create wrinkles and crow's feet.

Sleep deprivation causes fluid to settle below our eyelids, giving off the appearance that sacs of fluid -- or "bags" -- are underneath the eyes. These under-eye bags make us look older, and give our faces a more worn-down vibe. Naturally, these fluid sacs make our faces look puffier, taking away from our face's natural bone structure.

Doctors suggest that finding ways to decompress from your job during the evening, as well as sleeping 7 to 8 hours a night, is a great way to minimize these unsightly under-eye bags.

Stress Causes Flaky Skin and Dryness

Another skin-related issue that arises because of stress is dry skin. Dieticians suggest that women who are suffering from workplace-related stress have a tendency to drift away from healthy eating choices, opting instead for sugary soft drinks and treats that can be enjoyed on-the-go. These unhealthy foods, combined with the constant stress, can cause your skin to dry out and flake.

The problem with dry, flaky skin is that it can make you more prone to itchiness. For example, stress has been linked to increased outbreaks of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, which can cause itchiness and persistent discomfort on your scalp.

Look Out for Acne Outbreaks When Stressed

Besides skin dryness and dandruff, women who are under consistent stress also tend to suffer from acne breakouts. Women who are already suffering from conditions like psoriasis and eczema will often suffer outbreaks when they are stressed out, too.

This is because stress releases cortisol and other hormones in our bodies, which causes acne and breakouts to occur.

Other skin issues that are caused by stress include:

-Rashes
-Hives
-Skin Redness

This is why taking charge of your health and finding ways to reduce your stress levels is so important. The health of your skin depends on it!

REPLETE FOUNDER & SKINCARE EXPERT, ELISABETH THIERIOT, SPEAKS ON LIME JUICE & SUN EXPOSURE

Food & Wine LogoFood & Wine Magazine’s Lifestyle Site, FWx reached out to Replete Skincare founder and skin care expert, Elisabeth Thieriot, to explain why you better be careful using lime juice in your drinks this summer!

A note to people enjoying margaritas outside this summer you may want to be extra careful not to spill anything on your skin. Really, really careful. Buzzfeed brought our attention phytophotodermatitis; a chemical reaction that can occur when lime juice mixes with UV rays—something that can certainly happen when drinking outside. What an evil world we live in when margaritas and sunshine, two of our favorite parts of summer, become a potential danger to our health.

ACES GOLF MAGAZINE EXPERIENCES REPLETE LUXURY SKIN CARE

Aces Golf Mag Logo“I have used men’s skin products for a number of years, but was intrigued because these (Replete Skincare products) were all-natural products…

Replete founder, San Francisco resident Elisabeth Thieriot, based the products on the 24-hour Circadian rhythms of our bodies as well as the seasons so there is a different daily use skin product for each season. They are designed as “food” for all skin types and are formulated without chemicals, fragrances, artificial dyes, silicones, parabens or glycol.

Having used the products over the last two months, I can say they feel great going on and are extraordinarily concentrated—whether it is deep cleaning lotion or either of the skin treatments. A couple of drops goes a very long way.”

BOOMER REVIEWER SHARES THE IMPACT OF REPLETE SKINCARE

Boomer Reviewer

“I just returned from 2 weeks in the Amazon Rain forest.  It was humid all the time and I spent lots of time in open air skiffs with the wind whipping across my face.  Sometimes it felt like my skin was getting sandpapered off.  I had no idea how to protect myself so I could only let it happen.

Then I came home to a beautiful package of Replete Skincare.  The timing could not have been any better.  My package consisted of Spring Serum Complex, Rejuvenating Mist and Eye Restore.  Within 2 days my skin felt better than it has in years.

The products are pricey but the results are dramatic.”
